The College Board recognized Free State High School with its National Siemens Award for Advanced Placement. The College Board identifies one high school in each state to receive this annual award for commitment to providing students opportunities to excel in Advanced Placement courses, especially math, science and technology.
U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced the selection of Free State High's Kate M. Falkenstien as a 2008 Presidential Scholar for demonstrating exceptional academic and artistic ability, leadership, citizenship and service.

The Lawrence Schools Foundation and Lawrence Education Achievement Partners invite you to "Rise and Shine...and Join Us" at 7:30 a.m. on September 5 at the Lawrence Holidome for the Community Education Breakfast. Our featured speaker is 1982 Lawrence High Graduate Brian McClendon, Google Engineering Director, overseeing Google Earth and Google Maps. Celebrate the kick off of the 2008-09 school year.
Governor's Award
Broken Arrow Elementary School earned the Governor's Achievement Award for student performance on the 2007 math and reading assessments. Students achieved the Kansas Standard of Excellence in both subject areas schoolwide and at each of the grade levels tested. Broken Arrow's performance on the state assessments ranks the school among the top five percent of elementary schools in Kansas. Congratulations, Broken Arrow students, parents and staff!
